I've eaten at this location since they first opened!  It's in a cute little strip mall and the absolute KILLER is they have a Dippin' Dots next door!  My kids go bonkers and love how we can get lunch and dessert and not have to get back into the car right away.  It's a complete meal package for the day!

Food is absolutely fresh and just darned great!  Everything is authentic and simple with just the right spices, sauces, and dressings.  They will make just about anything on their menu the way you ask for it.  I love the Chipotle Pasta but it's a bit spicy, so they tone it down for me.  The meat is never over-cooked, but moist and tender.  They have some great specials, too, and there hasn't been anything I've tried that I didn't like.  I bring all my friends here, too!  The owner, Vasili, and his family and staff are always welcoming, just like I would imagine if you were actually in Greece!  It's nothing fancy, but then that's just the way I love it...the food speaks for itself.  Oh and the hubbs, he just loves how he can get jalapenos and pile them on the chicken gyro.

Very few restaurants get 5 stars for me, so 4 stars for this place is damn impressive. First of all, In Lillian L's review, she mentions some burnt pieces on her pita and Gyro. These "burnt" pieces are actualy some char left from the Grill they use, since they don't microwave the Pitas. The char adds a little smokiness to bread, which most people see as a plus. The same for the Gyro, once it's carved from the vertical rotisserie, it's put on the grill to add a little more depth of flavor. This is old school Greek style when it was actually cooked over open flames.

Ok, off my soapbox now and into my review. My wife and i were craving some greek/med food and although Daphne's is close to us at Bella Terra, it's not exactly great and parking there sucks big time. So I was browsing around Yelp and found this little hole-in-the-wall place over by the Costco in Fountain Valley. It's in a kinda food strip mall place near some big furniture stores. It's a small place, a few tables,  and a counter for take-out. I've only tried the Gyro Plates, plus my wife has had the Falafel, both very tasty. Portions on the Gyro plates are amazingly big, lots of rice, salad and meat. They are very quick, surprisingly faster than Daphne's fast food style.

I stopped for a quick dinner on the way to rehearsal at Sound Matrix studios Friday evening. I should note that I chose PFG entirely based on its rating i grabbed while sitting in traffic on the new Yelp app for Blackberry (http://yelp.com/yelpmo... nice job, Yelp!).

From the outside, you'd just assume it's a Daphne's, but as far as I could tell PFG isn't a chain; just in a strip with a series of other restaurants that are all chains.

Anyway, I was in a little bit of a rush so I didn't get to read reviews for suggestions so I figured with the 4-star rating, I'd go for the classic gyro. I figured if a Greek place can't get a gyro right, they shouldn't be in business. Happily, the gyro was indeed... the business.

Slightly crispy, and non-doughy pita wrapped around a generous portion of inexplicably non-greasy schwarma meat, the just-right dallop of tzaziki, and a handful of fresh veggies. Well constructed with nice proportions. No grease-yogurt slime running from the heel of my hand down to my elbow. No overly salty/dehydrated feeling from over-salted meat. I could've used a little heavier hand on the veggies but that's easy to ask for next time. The tzaziki was probably not fresh, but what do you expect for a strip mall?

This is a solid gyro, and $5.95 if I remember correctly. I'd come back. They had interesting looking specials: fish, falafel, and maybe a pork chop? Everything sounded nice. Atmosphere is a non-plus - it's strip mall standard issue, but you're not going to PFG for the ambiance.

Skip Daphne's and head over to PFG. Easy access to 405 N & S. Lots of no-U-turn lights in the area so google-map it before you go unless you don't mind a little adventure.

So the first time I came here, I was very pleased and happy with the service. The cashier (manager/boss?) was helpful and explained the kids meal and permitted me to order the Kids Gyro + Fries meal, while substituting the fries with their greek salad. He tried to suggest me to order a sandwich since the kids meal was "REALLY SMALL" but boy, it ended up to be a lot for a kids meal. (see attached pictures).
My friend and I were impressed... until I ate some of the pita bread. WTF IS THIS? IT'S BURNT. that's what! Every piece of pita bread I nibbled on had burnt edges. HMPH. that's the only reason why I minused a star.

SO, the next time I came here, I SPECIFICALLY told the cashier lady about the burnt pita bread and to make sure that my pita bread IS NOT BURNT. As it arrived, I poked around and scanned twice, and was happy (temporarily). I only saw one dot of burnt-ness. Then I bit a piece of gyro. WAH?! NOW WHAT IS THIS? THE GYRO IS BURNT. WTF!!! I GOT PWNED BY GREEKS.

So the only reason why This place gets 4 instead of anything lower, is because everything else besides the burnt food, is delicious. They're generous in giving meat, which is always a plus. I'm sick of stingy bastard restaurants with their meat.

Daphne's got nothin on this place. Service is ALWAYS amazing. I'm never scared of getting screwed over when trying to order something I've never had before because the many times I've tried something new, I've never been let down. They never fail in suggesting the right food for me when I tell them what I eat (and I'm a pretty picky eater). Their filet mignon is to DIE for. It's very tender, juicy and flavorful, and the pastry that they put it on is amazing. Always cooked the way I want it to be - never over nor under cooked. Filet mignon and sirloin are fantastical. Their fries are delicious. THIS is authentic greek.

First of all, let me say thank you to Laura S. for suggesting the Pita Fresh Grill in Fountain Valley.  After the less than memorable experience at Thasos earlier in the week, I really wanted to satisfy my craving for a decent Greek gyros sandwich.  Pita Fresh offered just that, along with fast and friendly service and a reasonable price. I am giving it a cautionary three stars for now until I have had a chance to try the other items on their menu.

The gyros meat was tender and delicious, topped with tomatoes, red onions and a very good Tzatziki sauce.  I really am not a fan of Tzatziki sauce on the side, it has to be blended in with the meat and vegetables for the flavor to really come out for me.  This was indeed the traditional gyros sandwich that I am accustomed to, not the greasy mess from Thasos that ended up all over my lap yesterday.  I'll never go back to that place again!

Admittedly, I was playing it safe by just ordering a sandwich this time around but I believe I will revisit this restaurant to sample other items on their menu. Their tiropita and souvlaki pita look pretty good and are worth trying.  And I will definitely
throw the diet out of the window and try the baklava next time.  Really good baklava is so hard to find, I will be writing an update when I get the opportunity.

Stephanie R commented on 07/19/2009

This place was the mother ewffing s**t!
The Steak & Lamb Gyro was out of this world! The meat was perfectly seasoned, Pita was soft, taziki was a great combination of yogurt, cucumber and garlic, lettuce and tomatoes were fresh. It was HEAVEN IN A PITA! I also added a side of French fries for a buck, which were in an awesome seasoning! YUM! Bummed they didn't have spicy, mint sauce like other gyro places, but totally made up for it because they had spicy feta spread.... So good!

This place is super small inside, but that was ok because the inside was clean and temperature was cool. The guy behind the counter was really nice.

Didn't try the Baklava because I was too full from the pita and fries. Reasonably priced, around $6.50 for the gyro and $1.00 for fries.

I will definitely be back!!! Soon... Very soon!!!

Very surprised about how good this place is. I read the reviews and all were mostly good, but some how I didn't expect it to be so tasty. This place is a small, cozy , order at the counter, family owned and operated restaurant. They have little more than a hand full of tables. Parking lot had plenty of spots when I came for dinner.

Well my meal was very yummy, fresh and had me wanting to go back to try another item on their menu. I had the Gyro Plate which comes with strips of gyro beef / lamb, rice pilaf, greek salad, pita bread and tzatziki.

Pita bread was warm, toasted and chewy.

Tzatziki had the perfect blend of garlic and cucumbers. Not too strong and overwhelming. Great for dipping pita bread in.

Rice was moist.

Salad was fresh and refreshing. Be careful biting into the salad as it has whole olives with the seeds in them.

Meat was hot and flavorful.

This was 10 bucks spent very well.

Can't wait to come back and try some Souvlaki and Falafel.

I haven't had falafel this good since....ever!  Craving a vegetarian meal, I saw "falafel" on the menu.  I asked what it came with and the kind man/owner(?) said it was a falafel sandwich.  I got it with a side of fries for $1 more.

The sandwich looked deceiving in terms of size.  It was quite filling by the last delicious bite.  The pita was warm and chewy.  The falafel was heavily spiced with a hint of peppery heat.  The texture was just right--a little crunchy and a little soft.  Mine came with optional feta cheese, which was good, but can add a little too much salt to the taste.  The fries were fresh, crispy, and topped with seasoned salt.

The only other place I can find falafel in my area is Daphne's, but Pita Fresh is waaaay better.  This is my go-to place now for some casual Mediterranean food.

So I just get back from the dentist, its been three days since I have eaten solid foods because I got my wisdom teeth removed. I was just told I can eat solid foods and no longer suffer from starvation.

You don't know what hungry truly means until you can't eat solid foods. I felt like it was back when I was in Cabo San Lucas and didn't like the resort food and ate fruit and mashed potatoes for the week. I was HUNGRY. So I think about all of the food I have been dying to eat for the past three days and I think Greek. I pull over on the side of the street and pulled up yelp on my cell phone.

I type in Greek and Pita Fresh Grill pops up. The moment I read in the review that its individually owned and better than Daphne's I decided I'm in! So I kinda know where it is and I am so delusional from hunger that I am racing to get there. So I walk in and was greeted by a sweet man named Rob who guided me through the menu. I get my food- a falafel pita sandwich a little modified and the moment I get to the car I rip that bad boy open and eat it like an animal. I have never seen myself eat like this except when I found a Burger King in Cabo and ordered 2 burgers chicken fingers fries and onion rings... it was so good. The food was amazing and the falafel didn't taste over cooked or dry- it was just right. I will be coming back to this establishment. They satisfied my craving for solid foods.

The food here is very good, however I have always experienced that it takes a long time for the food, no matter how crowded or uncrowded it is. Also don't plan a date after eating here you will most likely have bad breath they use a lot of garlic in their dishes.

I've made my carbon footprint here. I lunch here at least once a week. When they see me, they already know I'm going to inhale their Gyro Salad. Then if I give a certain gesture (no, not the bird, silly), "he" knows that my drink will be a Frappe instead of a coke. Very nice staff, cozy seats and atmosphere. Dolmades are amazing and I swear I always leave with a smiling face back to the office. This place is a most definite five star establishment.

I was just in your shop the other day on a recommendation from a friend, and I have to say your food was the best Greek food I have ever had (and I have had a lot). I ordered the Gyro - beef/lamb with a side salad. The food was very fresh, there was lots of meat in the Gyro, and the salad was not a tiny side salad (not to mention lots of feta cheese). All in all I was very pleased. 10 out of 10 for your establishment. I look forward to visiting again!

The first time I fell in love with Greek food was when I went to the Greek district in Toronto, Canada, of all places. The tzatziki sauce they served with their perfectly breaded calamari and chicken pita was to die for (that 's another review ^_^). When I came back to Cali, I quelled my longing tummy with "Pita Fresh Grill".

One day, during my lunch hour, I dropped into "Pita Fresh Grill" thinking it was going to be a crappy version. But they did not disappoint.

Their chicken pita sandwich is served piping hot - fresh and tender off the grill. The pita is a soft and warm, and the tzatzki sauce is pretty darn good. The greek salad was fresh and portion plentiful. I still would like to try more things on their menu, so I tentatively give a 4-star rating.

The owner is friendly and the service is as fast as can be while making food fresh and delicious. If you're on a tight lunch schedule, you can call in to order ahead. A couple times that I went, it took 10-15 min to get receive my sandwich order. Other than that, good atmosphere and excellent food! Hope you enjoy it too!

I tried Pita Fresh Grill for lunch since I was getting bored with the places I usually go to.  I ordered the souvlaki plate with chicken and lamb.  It comes with rice, a greek salad, and 4 pieces of pita bread.  It took a little while to get my food but I guess thats because it's cooked to order which is a good thing.  The pita bread was grilled on the grill and seasoned.  It was tasty, warm, and soft.  The lamb was done very well, it had a a nice charred taste from the grill and was also tender and tasty.  I usually prefer to eat lamb at medium rare but this was still good.  The chicken was ok and was a bit on the dry side.  Oh well, it's hard to keep chicken breast from drying out.  The salad was good just a mix of lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, onions, and olives.  I honestly found the cheese to add plenty of flavor and I didn't need to use any dressing which comes on the side.  The tzatziki sauce was also very good and I enjoyed dipping my pita and meat in it.  The rice was ok, decent flavor but undercooked, some pieces were a little on the hard side.  I was planning on cutting out some calories anyway so I didn't eat much of the rice anyway.  The price is ok and my lunch came in to just under 10 bucks.  I wish the portions were a little bigger, the skewers were kinda small, and I'm feeling hungry for more meat.  I'll probably come back every once in awhile, 3.5 stars if I could give it, but I'll be generous and give it 4.

PITA FRESH GRILL

My goals for 2008 are healthy living and healthy eating. I have other goals, but these are at the top of the list. So, I stopped off at Pita Fresh Grill. Open for a little less than two years, Pita Fresh Grill does it right. The service at this fast-paced eatery is extra friendly, and eating healthy is easy there.

I tried the lamb kebab. Yum. Paired it with salad and said no to the fries. Baklava? Extra delicious here, but I said no. I took home a Greek Salad for later. It's full of Roma tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, Kalamata olives, romaine lettuce and feta cheese... all for under $6.

The kids' menu features a classic gyro with strips of seasoned beef and lamb topped with Tzatzaki sauce and fries for $4.25.

Pita Fresh is at 18011 Newhope St. Ste E, near Talbert. The restaurant is closed Sundays. Info: 714-241-0119 or pitafreshgrill.com.

The food is always fresh.  The prices are reasonable.  The food is so good. The service is always great.  I came here when they first opened and again today, and it was just as good (if not better) than the first time.

Another excuse to come to fry's (located across the street).

Pita Fresh Grill has all kinds of wonderful things to try. It has unique Greek and Mediterranean dishes that are so good. They also have Falafels and Dolmades. The Hummus dip is delicious with pita bread. I go here all the time and have never got anything that I didn't love. Prices are very reasonable too! Pita Fresh Grill is an exceptional find - it's phenomenal food served by the friendliest Greek American in Orange County. All of the food is fresh and far better than you'd find anywhere else. The Tiropita is excellent and the Tsasiki and  Kopanisti are amazing. It makes Daphne's taste like dog food!

I must have made a mistake, as my order did not seem to go through! Other than what could have most easily been my fault, I was absolutely blown away by the service I received! I came in there just at closing to pick up my order and when you all heard my story you so generously worked overtime to get my order done. I'm extremely grateful for that and so is my family! The food was absolutely top notch, as always! My boyfriend ordered the classic gyro and almost drowned himself in drool when he saw it! He had not had gyro anything since he went to France quite a while back and was blown away by his feast. I thank you again for your amazing service and your absolutely delicious food!

When I first walked in here, it definitely reminded me of a little taverna in Santorini.  Their name speaks the truth - Pita Fresh indeed.  I love eating the pitas with the tzatziki sauce.  The chicken and lamb souvlakis are good, so are the gyros and fries.  The food looks healthy and tastes healthy, but very tasty and filling.  Tastes better than Daphne's.  Price is also reasonable.  I could eat here everyday.  Can I get an Opa?!!

John-Michael Perez commented on 10/12/2008

The best part of Pita Fresh Grill is the delicious food. The owner is painstakingly meticulous about the way the flood is seasoned and prepared. Take even the pita bread for example:  You won’t be getting the plain pita you’ve had at other Greek restaurants; instead the pita is lightly coated in olive oil, powdered with a special blend of seasonings, and then roasted to a perfect not too crisp, not too soft texture.

When you go, check the specials if you’re looking for a unique and authentic dish. Each special is a distinctive creation that the owner has prepared.  From braised beef to seared ahi, you will be amazed at the breadth of flavors used to make these dishes so remarkable.

If you are wondering, I speak so highly of Pita Fresh Grill because, as a fountain sales rep for Coca-Cola,  I visit hundreds of restaurants each week, and none of them match the level of service, cleanliness, and excellence that Pita Fresh Grill achieves. The owner is dedicated to his business, and maintains the cleanest and most tasty restaurant around.  He is not only a culinary genius, but also a great family man filled with some amazing stories from his time in Greece.

Please stop by, you won’t be disappointed!

Pita Fresh Grill stands alone. Comparing this establishment with Daphne's or any other fast food restaurant in southern California would simply be unfair. The head chef is a creative genius, and the food is so delicious, it's almost impossible to eat without moaning! The prices are so incredible, this place is worth an hour drive to check out.

Being raised near Chicago ( Greek Town) I longed for real Greek food. When Daphne's came along, I admit it did help ease the craving for a Gyro or anything else with feta cheese. But something seemed missing and I was not sure what it was. Then I happened to go into Pita Fresh and was brought back to the Greek food I remember. The owner, who by the way is from Greece, walked me though the menu. Souvlaki plates with perfectly spiced skewers of pork, lamb or chicken, real baklava, or how about the Tzatziki dip made with real Greek yogurt and not sour cream. It is hard to back off on the Tzatziki and hot pita bread, but you must or you will not be able to eat your main course. I make it a habit to pick up dinner once a week to bring the family. They love it.

From the spicy feta dip and creamy hummus (the owner's secret recipes), to the mouthwatering, charbroiled lamb and chicken souvlaki, to the incredible vegetarian pasta, any choice is the perfect choice at this authentic Greek taverna. Don't forget to finish off your meal with the most luscious baklav you've ever had! That too is home-made. Best of all, the prices are unbeatable. Well I was too lazy and emo last night to prepare my lunch for today and I am happy I was! I had a great lunch here.

I ordered a gyro plate to go which consists of the gyro, pita bread, greek salad, and rice. YUMMY. I wanted some hummus and he gave me a little bit on the side so I didn't have to order a whole one. How nice!

The gyro meat was really good and so was the pita. I LOVE greek salad but I wish they put a little more feta and tomatoes on it. I will ask for that next time. Also, the rice was good, tzaziki (spelling?) white sauce was good with the gyro, and the hummus was okay (on the odd side).

Overall it was good and I'd go back.
Remember to ask for some extra feta and tomatoes. Hold off on the onions too.

:)

The dolmades weren't the best I've ever had, but then I'm comparing them to homemade.

For the first time since my visits to Greece I found a true Greek Gyro. It was made with fresh pork and spices, not a lamb loaf that is made in a factory and frozen until used. I have since tried almost everything on the menu and have found them all to be fresh and delicious. I have become a regular.

Ron wrote - I"ve eaten here for lunch a number of times, and always come out satisfied. I've pretty much eaten every animal they have to offer in a gyro: pork, beef, lamb, and chicken. And mmm, mmm, it's all good. They've mixed up their fries a couple of times, but both times, they were great: A little crisp on the outside, a bit moist on the inside, with an interesting seasoning on top.

And that's another cool thing about this place, since it hasn't been open for too long, the owner, whom you may see from time to time, is not afraid to experiment with the menu to see what works, and what doesn't. One of the first times that I went, we ordered the coffee, and the owner excitedly told us that she was trying out something different with the coffee, and that we'd be the first to try it. Unfortunately, I didn't think it was all that great, but I admired her enthusiasm, and willingness to try things, hehe.

Kira wrote - We have a winner here. This place makes Daphne's taste like cardboard. I ventured in here today for lunch around noon. I ordered a chicken pita sandwich, which comes with fries. I asked if they would subsitute a side salad, and they did - no extra charge. My food came out about 5 minutes later. The pita sandwich was big and stuffed with chunks of chicken, red onion rings, sliced tomatoes and yummy tzatziki sauce. The salad was a generous portion, with mixed greens, whole olives, tomatoes, and feta cheese. The best part was the chicken. The meat was very tender and had the most amazing flavor. Whatever they marinate or season it with rocks. So good. The pita was flavorful and soft. I ate the entire thing.

I was so excited that I couldn't wait to go home!

Aimee wrote - Found in a mall-type food court across the way from Costco, I didn't expect too much from the Pita Fresh Grill.  Turns out instead of being a commercial Daphne-esque fast food place, Pita Fresh Grill is a sweet and tiny family-owned establishment (when I came the owner's son was running around the place).

I just wanted to try their pita but ended up getting some falafel too.  Their hummus was incredibly fresh and had great texture.  With a drizzle of fruity olive oil on top it's definitely worth getting because of the huge portion as well delicious flavor.  The pita bread is wonderfully soft and fluffy, without being mushy.  I'd be fine making a meal out of those two items alone, but there is more on the menu.

The menu itself is rather slim but it has the basics of what one would expect to find at a Greek place.  Gyros, chicken pitas, falafel pitas, kebabs, and salads make up most of the menu.  I've only been there once, but I'm betting the rest is just as good.

I had keftedes, the little meatballs which were seasoned and cooked to perfection with some seasoned french fries.

To top it all, I had baklava which was home made for sure and a Frappe which is a Greek coffee drink. And, no it is not a Frappucino. All in all, the bill was nowhere near what you would pay at a nice Mediterranean restaurant while the food was up to par with one. The food was definitely much better than Daphne's so if you're in the area stop by and give it a try.

And on the way out, don't forget to get a Frappe to go especially if it's summer. It will help you cope with the heat on the way back to wherever you're going.
